Joy That Does Not Wait
Pastor Chris Officer · Luke 2:8–20 · Luke 1:46–55
Advent 3 · Joy. The rose candle. Gaudete. The Ephesians series is complete. Joy will not wait until everything is fixed. A Savior has been born to you.
Verse from this message
Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:10–11
An announcement, not a mood
The shepherds were afraid. The first word was good news of great joy for all the people. Joy is not something we manufacture once the year behaves.
Joy has a location
Today, in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you. Not an idea. A Child. The first congregation of Christmas was a night field.
Mary sings before the story is tidy
Gaudete is obedience, not denial. One echo from the fall: God is able to do more than we ask. Christmas is that sentence in flesh.
For the table
- Where have you postponed joy until a circumstance clears?
- Who around you needs the announcement more than advice?
- What line of Mary's song can you actually mean this week?
Practices
- Light Hope, Peace, then the rose candle of Joy at the gathering. Come, Lord Jesus.
- Sing one verse of joy out loud in your house before the week is over.
