Before You Build

Let a burden become prayer before it becomes a plan.

Opening

Read Nehemiah 1 slowly. Notice the order: he asked, he sat, he wept, he prayed, then he spoke to a king.

Ask how the remnant really is

Leaders who will not inspect the rubble will write a vision that cannot stand. Start with the true condition of the people.

Prayer has a shape

Who God is. Confession — we, not they. Then a specific ask. That is a leadership prayer, and it is a family prayer.

Burden is a gift

Holy discontent is not moodiness. It is love that will not look away. Do not rush it into a program.

Ask

  1. What rubble have you stopped looking at?
  2. What would confession (not blame) sound like there?
  3. If God gave you a burden, who would you tell first?

Send

Pray Nehemiah's pattern once this week. Then ask one person at Journey how they really are, and wait.
